An Cluiche was developed as part of my final year studies at IADT, originating as a minor project that culminated in the creation of a photobook. The project explores the emotion, tension, and intimacy that exist within Irish sport, while reconsidering how sporting moments can be represented through photography.

Rather than relying on traditional action-focused imagery, An Cluiche adopts a more intimate visual language. Through selective framing, close observation, and unconventional compositions, the work draws attention to the quieter details that often go unnoticed: fleeting expressions, subtle gestures, moments of connection, and the emotional undercurrents that unfold both on and off the field of play.

The project brought together imagery from a variety of Irish sports, seeking to reveal the shared human experiences that exist across different disciplines. By focusing on these often-overlooked moments, the photographs move beyond the spectacle of competition and instead consider the personal narratives, relationships, and emotions that give sport its meaning.

Presented as a photobook, An Cluiche became both a photographic project and a narrative object, using sequencing and design to deepen the viewer's engagement with the images. The publication formed the final outcome of the project, bringing together a body of work that reflects on sport not simply as performance, but as a space of intimacy, identity, and collective experience.
