An Cluiche
Ongoing Project / Final Year Development
An Cluiche is an ongoing photographic project exploring the emotion, tension, and intimacy within Irish sport. Created as part of my final year work at IADT, the project focuses on rethinking how sports imagery can be seen and felt. Instead of relying on traditional wide action shots, I experiment with tighter, more deliberate cropping to draw viewers closer to the personal moments that often go unnoticed.
The images in this portfolio form the visual foundation of the project. Through selective framing and unconventional compositions, An Cluiche aims to reveal the quieter details of sport — the expressions, gestures, connections, and micro-moments that give each game its heart.
Below is the current iteration of the photobook, along with a selection of images featured within it, representing some of my strongest and most developed work to date.
This work began as a minor project, presented as a photobook, but it will continue to grow and evolve throughout my major final year project. I plan to expand the series by photographing a wider range of sports, refining the visual style, and developing a stronger narrative around the role of intimacy and storytelling in sports photography.
An Cluiche is a study of the game beyond the scoreboard: a closer look at how sport feels, not just how it looks.
